♪ About Folk Punjab…
I was seeing that our lok virsa is scatared here and there. There are a few sites but they are pathetic: a hell of ads and popups! Is that the way to present the music which takes one to the origins! And the thing that irritates most is inability to download. When I saw no one is doing it, I did it. A clean, simple, and beautiful place on the Internet where you can easily search, listen or download folk songs.
I know this is not complete and what can be complete at all? But I had to start with something. I try to add songs regularly. So do check it now and then. You will find music of the soul.

I am, however, concerned how long you’ll be able to keep this site running, as it seems you have no means of income from this website. I am sure, the cost of bandwith use will increase over time, especially with more content added.

I recently discovered this site, and am very pleased with its content. I am a punjabi, and believe that insaaniyat is above all caste, creed and religion. And you will agree that this is what is embodied in the message of sufism. No wonder therefore that sufism spans across cultures and nations,and must I say, it also appeals equally to people of different religions and faiths. Music knows no boundaries, and it is said that without music, man is like an animal without its tail. Sufi music is unique in that it bridges many a divide, This is quite obvious from the mssages that you have here.
Your effort is greatly appreciated. I am sure your humble effort will continue to grow and become a treasure house. Just as a small spring grows along its journey to the ocean, to become a mighty river, and infact becoming a lifeline for many a people, your website promoting sufi music and punjabi virasat, will be a boon to many.

This website reflects the true voice of my heart that Punjabi is not the language of rude or jokes, instead its the language that Sufies chose for the poetry and this website say it loud.
Where is name of greatest female Punjabi singer of all times, Madam Noor Jehan, Face of Punjabi folk music is certainly incomplete without this great singer, and not a single song of her on this website, i dont know what to say :(

Sohail – Great job on this website. I have an old tape of Shaukat Ali in which he has done an excellent job of some folk songs, particularly Heer. Unfortunately the tape has seen better days and I’m trying to see if someone else has it for sharing. Its “Shaukat London Which”, dated 1980, EMI (Pakistan) Ltd. ID number is SPHOS 12198. Actually bought in India. Would appreciate it very much if someone can give pointers to finding a new (or good old) copy. Thanks. jagmit

I can’t think of any English word which could match the greatness of work done by you.
I have discovererd this website just today & feeling quite relieved because this is a sort of place, which I was always searching for.
Important of all, I think, this could well serve as a way to tune-up the relation between our nations. This definitely will help us to change the wrong mentality, that few people of our nations keep about each other. After all, our FOLK is same. But I am sure, politicians of both nations will never want this to happen.
Anyways, I greatly appreciate your vision & absolutely agree that our lok virsa is scattered a lot now. Boys these days are not attracted towards this becasue, I think that FOLK is a bit difficult to understand.
Moreover, before we could make out the meaning, we (Youth as a whole) need to know the importance & power of our traditional characters like Jugni, Jagga Jatt, Waris Shah & many more.
I also agree to your lines showing irritation towards advertisements on other websites distributing folk, just doing a bloody business on the name & cost of our folklore. Moreover, not allowing downloads or an extremely long & confusing procedure to download.
Talking about, how could we preserve our folk ? I think, we all need to take a stand on this comprehensively now. Unfortunately, our efforts are not up to the mark yet. I understand, you alone could not complete this task but your contribution, undoubtedly, will always be more than anyone else.
I was going through the suggestions by other people, one of which was allowing uploads, so that, other folk lovers could update this place with the folk stuff, they have. I am myself a Network Engineer, & well aware of the consequences of allowing this. I would suggess you to mention your e-mail address on this website so that all can forward thier folk content to you in e-mail & you could entertain the genuine content.
I think that there is lot which we can do in this direction & I would feel highly honoured, if I could be of any support to you.

Now, I hope you will definitely add some authentic and precise information on this subject (mysticism) as well. There are a few sites on this subject; which are just beating the bush, without providing any useful knowledge to study.

Folks, I’ve been scouring the net for some meaning, most of the online Punjabi/Urdu dictionaries have turned up nothing, or I don’t know how to use them.
In Bulhe Shah’s Kalam, one comes accross the term “chaak mahin da”. Now chaak I think is a herder, although I have not heard this term being used in East Punjab, comes from “charaana” or to graze, I guess. How about “mahiN” ? Does this refer to buffaloes, as that’s what Ranjha used to do?
Also some other ones:
1. “Theevein”: Eg. JadoN tak mera yaar na theeveiN”. Is this “miley” to meet?
2. Khassya: g. “eh jogi mera jeooRa khassya”
There are others, but let’s get started. Thanks!
