All of you must have heard the Jugni Arif Lohar sang for Coke Studio last year, the super-hit Punjabi song of the year. Now listen to his Jugni from 1982. It was the time he began to perform solo after the death of his father Alam Lohar in 1979. This one is sung in a traditional/folk manner; “chimta” can be clearly heard.

I would like to hear sufi songs
I like sufi songs
I like old pakistani punjabi film & old gurdas mann, malkeet songs
love is forever Pujabi song/music is as old as Love my love is music
This particular piece is reminiscent of the period when the folk music was still not a part of the club scene. It was the ‘wandering’ artists that sang for the pleasure of the crowds ‘anywhere’. Developments in the ‘Punjabi’ music scene in the U.K. changed all that.

I am from Majha region of Punjab on the Indian side. Our village is shaheedan in patti thesil. We’d go to the village on festivals and this is the typical style of singing there. It is so nice to hear this, reminds me of good times. :)
